This 200 page book recounts the adventure of a Wisconsin family's move to a tiny island in Belize,Central America. Both amusing and informative, it captures their real-life experiences, while tranporting the reader to a Caribbean paradise. It describes the trials and achievements on their journey as they find a home, establish new careers, and settle into "island life" in San Pedro Town. Peppered with colorful photos and subtle humor, this book is an easy-read and it will take you to the northeast coast of Belize where coconut palms sway gently in the tropical breezes. You can almost feel the warmth of the sunshine as you read this descriptive narrative. A Note From the Authors: We wrote our book about moving from Wisconsin to Belize shortly after we became bar/restaurant managers in San Pedro Town on Ambergris Caye,Belize. We had been asked the same ten questions repeatedly by tourists: How did you hear about Belize? Did you come here on vacation? You moved here year round? How long have you lived here? Do you still like it here? How did you get a job on the island? Does your daughter like it here? How are the schools?" Is it expensive to live here? What about your visas and work permits? ad infinitum... Our 214 page book covers all of the answers to these questions and much more. It is our personal story of going to San Pedro Town, Belize on vacation and moving our family to a "third-world country" permanently, just 21 months later! This descriptive narrative talks about our family securing a home, finding jobs, and settling into island life. Our book contains approximately fifty (short) chapters and describes the flora, fauna, fish and the food on the island. There is also a "husband's chapter" written for certain family members who may not find the time to read the entire book. This chapter is succint and contains all of the key points so that a discussion of the book with the wife goes smoothly! We also describe how twelve different cultures and ethnicities live together in peace and harmony on the "Jewel of Belize," the island of Ambergris Caye. The book contains a wealth of information based on our personal experience and is historically accurate. A lot of research was done to insure this and it was then proof-read by a local Belizean historian to insure accuracy There are no ten-letter words in our book. It is an easy read written with subtle humor. It is pro-Belize and talks about retirement options here and paints an interesting picture of the local Ex-Pate community. Not intended to be the newest tourist guide to San Pedro, there is plenty of information that visitors to the island will find helpful to enhance their vacations.
